Auto & Travel- Pets on Board!
If taking a vacation seems like more of a hassle than it’s worth because of pet care arrangements, it may be time to consider taking Fido or Fluffy with you. Traveling with pets is getting easier and easier as more Hotels and Campgrounds are allowing four-legged family members to tag along for the fun.
If you’ve never taken your dog or cat on a trip, it’s a good idea to take a few practice runs first. Always use a crate for your pets- not only does it keep them away from you when you’re driving, it will make them feel comfortable in the vehicle. Give your animal food and water at least two to three hours before you leave on a trip. Stop at a rest area every few hours to give dogs a water and bathroom break, not to mention time to stretch their legs. If you’re staying at a Hotel where pets are allowed, check paws before you bring your pet inside the room. Bring blankets from home to cover the bed and keep pet hair off the furniture. When you leave the room or your campsite for a while, leave your animals in their crates. Bringing toys and blankets from home will put your pets at ease, especially while on the road and in unfamiliar settings. When it comes time for meals, try to buy bottled water or bring water jugs from home. Since water is different everywhere, it may cause a pet to get sick.
